yuletide musings
[info]catalinay
So, I guess I'm fairly happy with my first Yuletide. I wrote four fics, total - two full-length and two treats, three for my assigned recipient and one for a random person whose prompt I liked during Yuletide madness. Although one of the full-length fics was pretty much written previously but never published; I just tweaked it a bit. (There's a few more chapters that I may eventually add.) They were all in fandoms I've never published in before. I'm beginning to think (or at least hope) that my assigned recipient defaulted, as she didn't comment on any of the fics I gifted her. I didn't get very many comments at all, which pretty much sucks, but I guess that's not really the point of Yuletide.

The point is, I got three amazing fics written for me which were just stupendously perfect and left me wanting more. And there's a lot more amazing fic written in fandoms I don't generally pay much attention to or didn't know at all.

I'll probably participate again next year, but we'll see what else is going on in life I suppose! (But could someone explain to me the controversy over Yuletide being at AO3 and some people not wanting their fic hosted there?)

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!! <3333333

I hope 2010 treats you all a lot better than 2009 did, since from what I gather pretty much everyone has had a less than stellar year. I hope 2010 will be awesome enough to make up for that, for all of you! <333

I am currently celebrating at [info]a_suitcase's place - her top floor apartment gave us an AMAZING view of the fireworks over Leiden, and now we're playing Mario Kart on her new Wii. To be honest this is excitement enough for me, haha. I am probably somebody's grandmother without even knowing.

Buut yes, have a wonderful New Year's Eve and an amazing 2010 everyone!! iluuuuuu

You are my fire, the one desire

Been watching the Twilight Zone marathon for most of the day. We got hit by some sort of snow storm today...

Nothing introspective here. Just writing the last entry of 2009, and the end of the 00 decade.

The 2000s were an amazing/interesting decade from what I remember, not as amazing as the 90s though, cause nothing can ever beat them~ imo, of course.

-if it isn't too cloudy for you tonight, look up at the sky. Apparently there's a "blue moon"
-In 2029 there's a 1-in-37 chance of the Earth getting hit by an asteroid. The Russians are on that.
-Mexico's on edge cause, with every '10, there's always been bloodshed.
-lolo Billboard named *NSYNC's No Strings Attached as album of the decade. Baby, bye bye bye~

I think that's all from me, unless I find some memes from people to steal. Hope you all have a Happy New Year. :)

Party peoples of the internet! What are you doing tonight?

Why hello there, Twilight Zone marathon.

So that's pretty much all I'll be doing today and tonight, and I am perfectly content with this. One New Year's Eve, I had to work the late shift at the video store; a couple of years later, I ended up being driven "home" to school by a bartender at 5:30 am, through (of all things, here in Alabama) a heavy snowfall, back to a dorm that was technically closed for the holidays so that my friends and I could sneak back in. This, after one friend spent the latter part of the evening throwing up into a party hat. I'm just saying--New Year's Eve at home: not such a bad thing.

(I will also be on the hunt for a new purse, as the handle on my old one, the frustratingly complicated and bepocketed Fendi spy bag knockoff, broke a while back. I want something a bit smaller, black, simple but cute--"stylish," if I can manage it. Oh, and inexpensive. I went to Etsy, got 20,000 search results, and ran away. Suggestions?)

I have absolutely no resolutions, by the way. I like the initial pep-talk excitement of making them, but they never, ever go anywhere. I mean, you've seen me do this before with self-imposed deadlines--I talk a good, rousing talk, and then nothing ever goes anywhere. I know this about myself: setting hard goals works for a lot of people, but it just does not personally work for me, probably because I psych myself out so easily. The only way I ever accomplish anything is by not trying and not expecting. "Follow your bliss," as the man said. So I know there are things I would like to do or improve within myself, but... the only way to do that is pretend they're not there, like a child playing peekaboo. Hey, whatever works.

P.S. There will be Woodchuck.

My new year's resolution:

Relearning math.

Not so much to go against the curve (The US, in a listing of 30 industrialized nations, comes in at 25), but because Professor Layton is kicking my ass.  It's embarrassing.  My own futility is shameful and I cry for my husband when given a math story problem.  If it's spatial or logic, no sweat.  But the math portions are giving me the shakes.

So, that sounds like an effective thing to do.  Get me a workbook - I got a couple gift cards for bookstores over the holidays and I see that one of the math for dummies pre-algebra workbooks is pretty well regarded.  So.  There but for the grace of Euclid go I.

(meanwhile holy fuck is writing being slow)

(meanwhile, meanwhile, let's bury 2009 at a crossroads with a stake in its heart and a mouthful of garlic just to be absolutely sure it's dead)

end of year memes. these things are POINTLESS for me to fill out because hi, my memory SUCKS and I can't remember anything earlier than June. no, really. I'm like "Muskrat? that was this year?" therefore, there are probably things I am forgetting for, oh, every question ever. but whatever. )

so since this is meme-tastic, go ahead and ask for unpopular opinions or whatnot, too, even though I did THAT before. ..whenever that was. I've left braincells all across the eastern seaboard.

..or something.

Good afternoon to you all
[info]cleolinda
Peoples of the internet! So I have read over your de-stressing suggestions--a lot of them were what I expected, but I was curious as to what people would recommend most often, and also the more unusual suggestions. (This is related, but I'll go ahead and ask up front where people will see it: does anyone have BPAL/TAL imps of Milk & Honey and/or Blinding Glory of Love they'd be willing to sell me? I kind of want to put off buying entire bottles at $25 each until I've tried them, and also, until I have the second e-book out.) So, I present to you some--not all, but some--of y'all's suggestions, with additions of my own where applicable:

Yup.

This is officially going to be my longest. fic. ever.  I can at least say I'm getting to the point where shit starts to blow up real good.

I am excluding a Babylon 5 'round robin' style fic that I worked on like fifteen years ago and we were seriously hung into that thing for like eight months because I don't remember how huge my contribution was.  Also, no copy still exists.  (sadface) I can be pleased to mention that even then, I brought more of the weird than I did the porn.  B5 was a good testing ground for crazy shit, too.

HUZZAH!

I swear before God and Krishna that the people who handle men's dress shirts are paid by the motherfucking needle.

Unboxing a shirt shouldn't be a thirty minute process done while staring at microscopic tools in your hands like you're undoing the Unicorn Tapestries strand by strand.  I don't know what I hate more; needled shirts or that titanium-weld sealed packaging that eats two pairs of your scissors.

I am certain these are the jobs you choose between in Hell.

Stop! Meme-r Time!

Peoples of the internet! I have another question. Stress relief methods: do you have them? Because my blood pressure is currently Not Happy, and I can tell it's an emotional thing--my doctor has told me that I have surprisingly good blood pressure usually, and the onset of this is sudden enough that--well. I won't get into the whole mess, but it's emotional, and I need to figure out a way to counteract that.
